Retirement Housing - Reasons to Make the Move

More and more seniors are choosing to move into retirement communities or apartment style housing. There are a number of reasons this has become the choice of our older counterparts. Let’s examine these possible reasons to see why this transition would be an attractive option for more and more people in their golden years.
The first reason could be the array of social activities that seniors have access to. Most of these properties host activities such as: birthday celebrations, potluck dinners, seasonal parties, and more on a regular basis. And what’s more, they host them right on property so the residents don’t even have to leave their community to see their friends and neighbors. Amenities like indoor heated pools, spas, fully equipped gyms and business centers are now a standard requirement for many retirees, who are seeking retirement communities which enable them to be as active and involved as they choose.
The second reason more seniors are finding this an attractive option is the basic principle of cost downsizing. It takes more to heat or cool a bigger home, and the yard work can create problems for some of them. The almost daily upkeep of a home becomes too overwhelming for some. More and more, they're seeing the value in exploring simpler living arrangements.
Another reason is the ease of transportation. Most properties have on site vans or buses to run residents on errands and social outings. These are provided, usually, at no cost to the residents and they do so on a fixed schedule to allow for residents to plan their weeks more efficiently and get the most out of their living experience.
Safety is another big concern for the elderly. Personal safety in the home falls into two categories - preventing accidents and security - and both are equally important. Some five million people suffer accidents in their homes every year, and the possibility of that rises with age. Retirement facilities offer amenities such as gated access and unit alarms to ensure their residents’ safety. On top of the usual precautions, they also usually have on site medical staff and security personnel patrolling the grounds 24 hours a day.
So when the facts are laid out, one can see why this trend has occurred in such a dramatic way and why some senior living facilities have resident waiting lists that are years out. With the increasing number of retirement communities sprouting up, it is important to work with a professional placement service to find the one that’s right for you.
